The Disgusting Liberal Response to Orlando

omarLast night, America witnessed a horrific event as terrorist Omar Mateen entered and Orlando, FL nightclub and murdered at least 50 people, injuring as many others, then died in a shootout with Orlando police. Hours later, amid reports that Mateen had called 9-1-1 prior to the attack, declaring allegiance to the Islamic State, ISIS claimed responsibility for this heinous act on its Amaq news agency. Mateen was apparently a security officer with ready access to weapons, having passed background checks, and with no criminal record.

“There is a time to respond to the clear and present danger
of an aggressive enemy. That enemy is ISIS and that time is now.”

There is much that can be said about this incident and, indeed, much will be said. The list of troubling aspects of this story is already a mile long, less than twenty-four hours afterward. What I want to write about today, however, is the predictable and deplorable focus of the left in the aftermath of this tragedy. In a time where the threat of radical Islamic terrorism is very real and has manifested itself yet again within our borders; in a time when dozens of families are grieving the loss of loved ones, while dozens of others wait with baited-breath as their own loved ones fight for their lives; in a time of great national tragedy, President Obama, Bernie Sanders, and dozens of leftist celebrities decide to focus on . . . wait for it . . . gun control.

Really? I mean, really, people?

President Obama, in his brief speech following the shooting, said

“This massacre is therefore a further reminder of how easy it is for someone to get their hands on a weapon that lets them shoot people in a school, or in a house of worship, or a movie theater, or in a nightclub. And we have to decide if that’s the kind of country we want to be. And to actively do nothing is a decision as well.”

Bernie Sanders, for his part, said that the real culprit in this event is a lack of gun control in America. The government, he contends, has

“got to do everything that we can to prevent guns from falling into the hands of people who should not have them. That means expanding the instant background checks, it means doing away with the gun show loophole, it means addressing the straw man provision. I think there is a wide consensus to move forward in that direction.”

Now, this article is not going to debate the merits of gun-control, nor the constitutionality of owning guns in America. That is a conversation for another time. What I contend is that the use of this tragedy as a political platform, as the left are known for doing, is reprehensible. It just makes me sick. We saw this after Columbine, after Sandy Hook, after Springfield. We saw it after San Bernardino, and we’re seeing it again here. In a time when all efforts should be focused on caring for the wounded, consoling their families, and hunting down those responsible (as ISIS claims to be), the left is using it to take political jabs, and to support their gun-grabbing agenda.

The only thing that will perhaps be a silver lining to it all is that now ISIS has targeted a group that the left cares about – homosexuals. Perhaps now, the administration will take the “J.V. Team” seriously. Now that they are targeting a group that the administration is willing to admit is being targeted (unlike the systematic targeting of Christians that the same administration refuses to acknowledge). Perhaps now, once the political anti0gun statements have been made and the pats-on-the-back have been given, something will be done about this enemy to America and the globe.

There is a time to respond to the clear and present danger of an aggressive enemy. That enemy is ISIS and that time is now.
